WIND GUSTS TO INCREASE

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has advised that winds will increase this morning in the alpine area. Overnight, strong winds have battered the mountains, and it's expected to intensify with gusts up to 125kmh. For ALPINE AREAS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts up to 125 km/h are possible. For the remainder of the SNOWY MOUNTAINS and adjacent districts: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h. Damaging winds are expected to continue throughout today before easing from the west during the afternoon. A wind gust of 95 km/h was reached at Perisher Valley at 02:53 am. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AEST today by the BOM. SHEEP GRAZIERS ALERT Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers, and north-westerly winds are expected during Tuesday and Wednesday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the Snowy Mountains forecast district. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
