The Capital Radio Network has announced that owner Kevin Blyton died on Sunday 19 October at Cooma Hospital, after suffering a cardiac arrest. Kevin began his career as an announcer at 2XL and then purchased the same radio station when he was just of 19 in 1978. The Capital Radio Network now includes XLFM and SNOW FM in the Snowy Mountains, 3GG in Gippsland, 2CA and 2CC in Canberra, GNFM and EAGLE FM in Goulburn, 6iX in Perth and associated digital stations including 60s Music and 70s Music. He was inducted into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame in 2013 where he was described as one of Australia’s most respected radio owners. The award recognises outstanding lifetime achievement, and contribution to the radio industry. The Blyton group also own Charlotte Pass and Selwyn Snow Resorts, Jindabyne Cinema and Snowy Mountains Airport. Snow Resorts Australia CEO Josh Elliott, who was previously CEO for the Blyton group told Mediaweek he and Blyton had worked together for 20 years, adding that Blyton “made an extraordinary contribution to both the radio and snow industries over many decades.” “His leadership, investment and vision created opportunities and careers for countless people, and his impact through those he mentored and supported will be felt for many years to come.” Kevin Blyton is survived by his daughter, Lucy Blyton-Gray who earlier this year was appointed as General Manager of Charlotte Pass Snow Resort.
