A MESSAGE FROM Transport for NSW - Alpine Way, beyond Thredbo will be intermittently closed from Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May 2026, weather permitting.

Transport for NSW will be carrying out maintenance work on Alpine Way between Tom Groggin rest area and the Siberia chain fitting bay 2km beyond Dead Horse Gap. This work will include drainage upgrades, replacing two culverts, installing new safety barriers, resurfacing the road and line marking.  

As this work requires excavating sections of the road, Alpine Way will be closed during work hours and reopened at periodic intervals to maintain access for motorists. Alpine Way will open for 15 minutes every two hours. Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

The opening times for Alpine Way between the Tom Groggin rest area and the Siberia chain fitting bay are:
• 8am to 8.15am
• 10am to 10.15am
• 12pm to 12.15pm
• 2pm to 2.15pm
• 4pm to 4.15pm
• From 5.30pm to 6.30am the following day when work starts
