Short Term Outlook
I'm just going to tell it as plan as honest as I can. Things are going to get worse before they get better (only short term). Here is the outlook for this week: Showers developing today with strong winds about the peaks. Tomorrow will see heavy rain early around Mt Buller and extending north up to Falls Creek and Hotham during the afternoon. Winds again will be strong about the peaks. Wednesday will see light scattered showers at times during the day. Later we will see a large rain band move across the mountains with torrential rain at times and winds reaching over 100km/h about the peaks. This will be a very intense, fast-moving front that could cause some damage. By Thursday morning, things will look very bleak and wet in the resorts. it could well be the least snow we have seen on the ground on July 2 since records began (natural and man made). Winds will continue nudge the 100km/h mark about the peaks. This is where things will start to improve. Light showers developing late on Thursday with snow falling overnight up high. Friday and Saturday should see light snow falling at times. We could also see the snow guns firing up over the weekend, giving a nice top up. This system is quite a tough one to read, but I'm leaning to only light snow. It's still possible for a decent fall if temps get low enough Thursday night. The following week is looking like a good one for snowmaking but not really natural snowfalls. We could see some runs opening with the overnight top ups.
