Short Term Outlook
Well, this storm system has turned out to be quite disappointing and a bit of a fizzer. It took a little longer for temperatures to get below zero than expected, and unfortunately that last 15–20mm of rain was hoped to fall as snow. We did see plenty of cool air and moisture head north, with snow recorded across the NSW Southern Highlands and also the Northern Tablelands around Armidale. We did see some good snow falling yesterday at Falls Creek and Hotham, which has filled in much of the rain damage. Most other resorts have probably experienced a net loss. The NSW resorts did see snow falling late yesterday and into the night, adding another 5cm or so, with some deeper wind-affected areas up top. Today will be windy again, although not as bad as the last couple of days. Hopefully, we won’t see too many lifts on hold, but be sure to check resort boards and websites for the latest lift status updates. Snow flurries and snow showers are likely at times later today above 1500–1600m, potentially adding another centimetre or two before morning. Tomorrow will see another front move through early, bringing strong winds and light snowfalls developing above 1500–1600m. A few centimetres of new snow is possible. Thursday will be mostly cloudy with gusty winds. Friday is looking like the pick of the week with lighter winds, while the weekend is looking partly cloudy — so no doubt it will be another busy one. 🐸
