Short Term Outlook
It’s not good news in the mountains, with showers and strong winds continuing yesterday and overnight, significantly damaging the snow cover. Winds exceeded 100km/h at the top of Thredbo overnight and remain strong this morning. Rainfall totals were Hotham 28mm, Falls Creek 25mm, Thredbo 32mm, Mt Buller 13mm, Perisher 22mm and Baw Baw 5mm. The only good news is that the showers have now eased, although winds remain quite strong around the peaks, particularly in the north, and could affect some lifts. Check resort boards and websites for the latest updates. Unfortunately, the diminishing snow cover means we will see a reduction in the number of lifts and trails open. Selwyn is now closed due to a lack of snow, while Baw Baw will close on Sunday. Today will bring gusty winds, easing later, with partly cloudy conditions in the north and cloud and the chance of drizzle at times in the south. Saturday will be mostly fine in the north, with gusty winds easing, while the south remains cloudy. Sunday looks mostly fine with light winds. Looking ahead, unfortunately, more rain is expected on Tuesday, easing to showers, with showers continuing into Wednesday. This will likely damage the snow cover further.🐸
