Magpie Swooping Season
It's that time of year, spring has well and truly landed on the Snowy Monaro. Marking the arrival of infant wildlife throughout the region. However, this also means that some wildlife become very territorial, and we can expect to see an increase in Magpies swooping throughout the region. ⚠️ To reduce your chances of being swooped: ➡️ Do not deliberately provoke or harass the birds, as this may make them more aggressive. ➡️ Take care, as injuries can occur as a result of birds striking. ➡️ Walk out of the bird's territory immediately or get off your bike and walk. ➡️ Avoid the swooping area by taking an alternative route. ➡️ Wear a large, wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses or carry an open umbrella; you can place eyes on the back of hats and umbrellas, which may reduce the likelihood of the birds swooping. ➡️ Keep an eye on the bird as this may discourage attack. ➡️ Fit a bike flag to your bike.
