Forecast 1/9/24
Unfortunately today will be the last day of operations for Mt.Buller, Baw Baw, Guthega and Smiggin Holes with Hotham announcing yesterday they will close Wednesday. This on top of Selwyn closing last weekend. This is an unprecedented early closing of resorts which were looking good at the end of July. Temps started to heat up early August and then the winds picked up causing a hair dryer affect and increasing the snow melt at a rapid rate. High pressure systems have forced any potential snow bearing systems to the south of the mainland (great news for NZ snowfields). The good news is that there is new coming tomorrow morning. Tuesday is the pick for anyone thinking of one last sickie. The winds finally ease for a short time and the sun comes out, so make the most of the fresh snow before the winds come back up Wed-Fri
